Nofollow links are a type of link that can be used in SEO to help avoid spam. When a link has “nofollow” attribute, it tells search engines not to count the link as a vote for the website being linked to. This can be helpful in preventing spammy websites from ranking higher in search results.

Definition

A nofollow link is a link that does not pass on link equity, or “link juice”, to the destination site. In other words, it does not improve the destination site’s search engine ranking. The vast majority of links on the web are nofollow links. Nofollow links can still be valuable, however, as they can send traffic to your site and help build brand awareness. In addition, Google has said that they may use nofollow links as a signal in their algorithms. Consequently, it is important to focus on creating high-quality content and building relationships with other websites, rather than solely on acquiring follow links.

To create a nofollow link, you simply need to add the “nofollow” attribute to the HTML code for the link. For example:

By adding the “nofollow” attribute, you are telling search engines not to count this link as a vote for the destination site.

You can also use the nofollow link attribute on an entire website by adding it to your robots.txt file. This tells search engines not to follow any links on the site.
